As an ECA for Middle School, I was asked by the assigned teacher if I'd like to come and help, but my enthusiasm for the subject and the play - as it was a play we had been studying in English classes, and of course my experience in the industry - meant that I took on more than a helping role much to the gratitude of the lead teacher.

We only had a ten-minute slot, and the four weeks before the production were exam weeks, so we were severely limited in what we could do. However, we pulled it off! We created most of our own scenery and even had two set changes on a stage designed for presentations rather than plays.

We started with Alice and her Sister having the history lesson and Alice drifting off. The lights came down, and the background flipped over to reveal the Mad Hatters Tea Party. Alice joins them but gets frustrated at the insanity of it all and as the Mad Hatter and March Hare throw the White Rabbit off the stage the lights come down again, the scene goes back to Alice and her sister and Alice explains that she now understands why we have the social conventions we have.

It was a lot of work, but I'm pretty happy with the results. The students worked so hard, even through their exams, and gave it their all. Well done Grades 7 and 8 for getting it all together at the last minute.
